Factors That Cause High Cholesterol
High cholesterol is the primary cause of many heart risks and problems. Heart disease is considered as the number one killer in the world today. Many people suffer from strokes or heart attacks more than any other disease in the world. There are many compounding factors leading to high cholesterol. However, there are also many other factors recently discovered that will shed light into this deadly disease.
Weight Problems
Unhealthy diet usually is the number one culprit. Many people are not aware that the food they are eating actually raises their cholesterol level thus, increasing the likelihood of a heart disease affecting them. In the United States, fast food chain has become part of the problem. The types of food served by these food chains are very deadly most especially if not taken moderately. Burgers and fries contain high amounts of saturated fats. These food groups also contain high amounts of carbohydrates that the body do not actually need. A lot of other types of food are also contributors to these problems. Chips, cookies, and many other stuff are readily available in the market. It is very important for people to become aware of the food they are eating and turn away from this unhealthy lifestyle as soon as possible before it is too late.
Genetic Heritage
One of the recent discoveries by modern medicine is that there are cases wherein high cholesterol is not acquired from diet alone but also from the genetic makeup of the person. These genetic traits are passed down from parents to children. Although quite unfair, this is the reality for most people. It is often very difficult to keep in check the cholesterol level in this situation no matter how good the medication is. The first step to combat this dilemma is to acknowledge this problem and start living a healthy life with a good diet and proper amount of exercise.

Unknowingly, we are subjecting ourselves to high levels of cholesterol due to stress. Stress does not increase cholesterol level directly. It affects our behavior and lifestyle which may lead us to eating disorders or other activities that increase stress.
Age and Gender
Everyone is getting older and as a result our cholesterol level increase. This is the fact of life and unavoidable. However, we can lessen the amount of cholesterol increase with healthy diet and constant physical exercise. Gender also plays a role. It seems men generate more cholesterol than females, but females are prone to heart risks and problems after menopause.
