Working People At Risk Of Heart Disease
As people age, maintaining proper cholesterol levels in the body becomes increasingly important. Contrary to the popular belief that children are unlikely to develop any heart ailments as a result of bad cholesterol, it could still happen; even though children may show the signs of heart problems at a later age. People of working age are more likely to have high cholesterol-related diseases than all other age groups.
Why are working people in risk? People at work attend to a labyrinth of activities, both healthy and unhealthy. Most of them attend social functions that include alcohol consumption and smoking. These are two of the major factors that cause hardening of the arteries, also known as atherosclerosis.
In addition, people at work tend to rush everything and that includes the food they eat. The popularity of drive-thru’s and fastfood chains encourages such habits. These restaurants use cooking oil that contains certain fats – fats that are bad for the body.
These workers also lack the time and the will to engage in physical activities that help keep the good cholesterol level to its optimum level. Instead, they resort to taking supplementary drugs that claim to help block bad cholesterol or maintain the level of the good ones. Little do they know that these supplements cannot fully replace the loss of good cholesterol and bring it up to the required level. That is why they are called supplements.
These people work 8 to 10 hours a day or even more; they are deprived of sleep and rest, and are often stressed and burned out on a daily basis. All of these contribute to illness. Often, these workers do not have time to unwind and instead, resort to these non-healthy feel-good foods to ease their stress and help them relax.
In the hope of making a better life for themselves, these working people work hard. By working too hard, these people shorten their lives. As a result, some will not be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. They must unlearn their bad habits and give themselves a chance to enjoy work in other ways.
Young professionals learn to adopt the most current work-related practices and habits, whether or not they are proper or improper, whether or not they put one’s life at risk. Only later will these professionals realize the harm they have brought to their own bodies. Treatment will always be available, but there may come time when treatment may be too late.
